Sohrab Abizadeh

Dr. Sohrab Abizadeh is a devoted teacher and distinguished academic who has served 91资源全集 with great distinction since first joining the institution in 1983 as an associate professor in the Department of Economics.
Abizadeh is a prolific researcher who has made significant contributions to the discipline of economics, and has played an exceptional role in the university administration — all while demonstrating a strong commitment to his students. He received UWinnipeg’s Clifford J. Robson Memorial Award for Excellence in Teaching and was listed in the segment of Popular Professors at UWinnipeg in the Maclean’s Guide to Canadian Universities. These two distinctions are among the highest compliments that students can pay their professor. Abizadeh’s teaching dedication, his research, and his attentiveness to students have tremendously enhanced the undergraduate programs of economics majors and honours at UWinnipeg.
Abizadeh is known for his generosity of time and as a mentor of his colleagues and students. He has published 45 well-received peer-reviewed journal articles, 14 chapters and three books. His research areas include public finance and international trade.
Abizadeh has committed a great deal of time serving the University on numerous committees. He is sought after for ‘his balanced views and ability to mediate difficult situations.’ Abizadeh has also filled a number of important administrative roles at UWinnipeg. He served as Department Chair of Economics (1987-1992) and later filled the role of Acting Chair on three separate occasions to facilitate administrative leaves by various colleagues. He also served as Associate Dean of Arts and Science (1992-1997) and as Director of the International Office (1998 -2000). His commitment to the University earned him the Robin H. Farquhar Award for Excellence in Contributing to Self-Governance.
Abizadeh’s impact on the University can be further measured by the respect he has achieved among his peers.
