Graduate Degrees in Bioscience
The Biology Department offers a Master of Science (MSc) in Bioscience, Technology and Public Policy and a PhD in Bioscience and Policy. These research-intensive programs are designed to provide advanced training in the life sciences while also helping students learn to place life sciences research into the broader context of modern society and learn skills to help maximize the societal benefit and impact of their research.
Students in these programs spend the bulk of their time working with a faculty supervisor on a thesis project across a range of sub-disciplines of bioscience such as genetics and genomics, bioinformatics, cell biology, physiology, behavioural ecology, natural resource management or environmental science. Most supervisors' laboratories are housed in the cutting-edge Richardson College for the Environment and Science Complex, which provides students access to the latest technology and facilities.
In addition to hands-on experience as part of their thesis projects, students also undertake coursework which provides training in technical aspects of bioscience, policy application of bioscience research, policy development, and communication to scientific and non-scientific audiences. These skills help graduates make an impact and prepare them for a wide range of careers.

Our program meets a growing need for highly trained personnel with skills suited to careers in academia, industry, the non-profit sector, government or as entrepreneurs.
